The control Linked List Block is commonly used on our stock evaluation forms for Goals.
This allows you to choose a choice and then link a second choice to it. Using Fusion Enterprise stock evaluations as an example: this allows you to double-click to choose your Objective Goal and then double-click in the 2nd box to get a list of options related to the Objective Goal to pull in your Functional Goal.
How does this function on our stock evaluation forms?
You must choose from the list in the first box before you will see any options in the second box. This is because they are linked together. For example, you may have an Objective Goal of:
- "Patient will improve core stability in order to..."
and 3 Functional Goals linked to that:
- "Read book or newspaper for 30 minutes without an increase in pain."
- "Roll over in bed without difficulty."
- "Lift 10 lb box from floor to waist level as job requires."
And you may have another Objective Goal of:
- "Patient will increase strength in affected LE by 15% in order to..."
and 2 Functional Goals linked to that:
- "Walk in the grocery store without limitation."
- "Climb stairs without limitation."
In this example, if you choose the first goal, you would only see the 3 functional goals linked to it as options for the second box. If you choose the second goal, you would only see the 2 functional goals linked to it as options for the second box. However, this also means, that if you double-click in the second box without choosing the Objective goal first, you will not see any options, since the form does not know what functional goal options you want.
This is true as well if you were to type a goal into the first box. Since you typed in a goal, the second box would not allow you to see any functional goal choices.
What if you need to edit a prepopulated goal?
If you need to edit a goal, be sure to add both the 1st and 2nd box goal choices, then go back and edit. If you were to choose the Objective goal and then click into the box and add some information, this would break the link to the 2nd box (functional goal). However, if you add the 1st and 2nd box first, you can click back into the first goal and make any edits you like and this will not affect the 2nd box goal, since it is already populated.
In Form Designer
To Modify an existing Linked List Block:
This is similar to editing Cascading Text, but there's a particular method for building the tree in order to link the two items (top and bottom / Obj Goal and Fxn App).
You can either click on the crosshatch of arrows to select both top and bottom boxes at once:
Or select one of the boxes and then hit Escape to get to both boxes together:
- Select the Linked List Block (as described above).
Check in the Properties panel on the right to make sure you have the Linked List Block selected and not just a Linked List Item.
- Select Edit (Linked Text) under Data.
- Click the ... (3 dots) to bring up the Cascading Text Editor.
- Select the item on the left and edit the text on the right.
To Add in Choices for a Linked List Block:
- Follow Steps 1-3 from To Modify an existing Linked List Block.
- Right-click on the left and Add Sibling.
- Select the <edit this> item on the right and Edit it on the left.
To Add in Sub-Choices for a Linked List Block:
- Follow Steps 1-3 from To Modify an existing Linked List Block.
- Select the item on the left and right-click Add Child.
- Select this child and Edit it on the right to read "1".
This is what will link the 2 boxes together. - Select the child again and right-click Add Child.
For example: as a Functional Goal continuing from where the Objective Goal left off.
More About Formatting in the Cascading Text Editor
- Everything at the parent level (sentences that start with 'Patient will') ends up as the Objective Goal selections (top box).
- The next level has to contain the number '1' and nothing else; this is what links the upper and lower boxes.
- Finally, everything under the '1' level (the children) will end up in the Functional App, or lower, box.
- Right-Click in the left-hand column to Add or Delete a Child or Sibling.
- When you Add a Sibling, this will be on the same plane as the selected choice.
- When you Add a Child, this will be under the selected choice as a sub-choice.
- You can Export a list, which will be a Text document you can save on your desktop.
- You can Import a list from an existing Text document.
NOTE: If you are editing multiple goals, just get one Linked List Block set up the way you want it. Then Export it. You can then go into each additional Linked List Block and select Import to save you time.
NOTE: If you are only adding internal data to an existing Linked List Block, you won't need to change your rollups or any tags, or form controls.
